ASIL Africa Interest Group

ASIL Interest Groups are organized by ASIL members for focused activity in particular fields of international law. Membership in ASIL is required for membership in ASIL Interest Groups.

The Africa Interest Group (AIG) is committed to examining and organizing events that foster dialogue on contemporary legal and socio-political issues that directly impact the character and well being of African states and African people on the Continent and in the Diaspora. The following five themes will guide the activities of the AIG in 2006-2007: (1) rule of law issues, including the evolution of local, national and regional human rights structures; (2) post conflict justice and reconciliation issues concerning states emerging from civil war; (3) international criminal law incuding the development of the ICC and ad hoc war crimes tribunals; (4) regional economic integration and trade issues, including the AGOA; and (5) African responses to local, national, regional and international terrorism. These themes are the subject of lectures, workshops and conferences organized by the AIG. The AIG also publishes a newsletter featuring scholarship both explanatory and critical of contemporary international law issues in and about Africa.
