Global Engagement Series
Environmental protection and conservation is becoming of increasing importance in Africa where climate change is likely to have a significant impact on agriculture, water resources, human health and safety, and biodiversity. Although the ability of African States to adapt to and confront environmental challenges will require greater cooperation between and amongst States, the contributions of the continent’s primary regional organization--the African Union-- have until now been underexplored and little understood. This Africa Global Engagement Series will feature a discussion of Amb. Dr. Namira Negm’s recent volume Introduction to the African Union Environmental Treaties which aims to address this gap by delving into the AU's legal frameworks for environmental conservation and mapping the evolution of African regional environmental law from its colonial legacy to its transition towards strategies of preservation and protection.
