Book Launch: Challenges and Recusals of Judges and Arbitrators in International Courts and Tribunals

Description:

The International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), in collaboration with ASIL, will host the launch of a new book edited by Chiara Giorgetti (ASIL Academic Partner University of Richmond School of Law). Challenges and Recusals of Judges and Arbitrators in International Courts and Tribunals assesses procedures, standards and outcomes of challenges and recusals in some of the main international courts and tribunals, including the International Court of Justice, ICSID, the Permanent Court of Arbitration, the World Trade Organization, the Iran-US Claims Tribunal, and the International Criminal Courts. It analyzes specific grounds for challenges and how they are applied, while also presenting personal perspectives on challenges and recusals from the point of view of arbitrators and counsel. In addition, it examines regional differences in challenges and recusals.

Lunch will be served at noon. Following lunch will be a panel discussion featuring:

  • Perry Bechky, principal, International Trade and Investment Law PLLC
  • Andrea Carlevaris, secretary general, International Criminal Court
  • John Crook, professor, ASIL Academic Partner George Washington University Law School
