Webinar: How to Get Involved in the State Department’s Work in Private International Law

Description:

In this webinar session, sponsored by ASIL's Private International Law Interest Group, John Kim (assistant legal adviser for private international law (PIL) at the U.S. Department of State) will discuss the work of his office and compare it to work done elsewhere in the Office of the Legal Adviser.  Mr. Kim will also provide an overview of some of the key areas in which his office is involved, which includes a variety of substantive areas of law as well as projects in dispute resolution (mediated settlements, investor-state issues) and on the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments.  Finally, Mr. Kim will describe the ways in which the State Department relies on input and thoughts from private practitioners, academics, and industry associations in determining which projects to support and how to implement those projects.  As a result, this session will provide excellent insights not only into the inner workings of the State Department but also into opportunities for the public to contribute to the making and implementation of PIL.

The webinar will be streamed at www.asil.org/live.
