The Washington College of Law International Law Student Association is hosting a conference on Reparation to Individuals for Violations of International Human Rights Law and International Humanitarian Law. International human rights law and international humanitarian law reflect traditional principles of reparation, adapting and expanding them in response to the needs of victims. The purpose of this conference is to explore the topic both theoretically and practically. The goal is to identify: the notion of victim, the scope and content of reparation, the proper setting to exercise a right to reparation, the interplay between human rights law and humanitarian law, and the relationship between universal and regional systems. Panels will cover general principles of reparation in international law, reparation in the regional and international human rights systems, and reparation for violations of international humanitarian law and in transitional justice.
