Realizing SDG 16 and Agenda 2063: Shaping the Growth and Development of Policies on the African Continent [1]
The American Society of International Law’s Africa Interest Group (AIG) will host a symposium highlighting best practices in shaping policies on the African continent, with specific reference to SDG 16 and the African Union Commission's Agenda 2063. The symposium will highlight particular best practices pertaining to gender equality and women's participation in governance and justice institutions, a central element of both themes. It seeks to engage and elevate the perspectives of those who are undertaking efforts to implement international standards, putting practitioners alongside academics to foster a productive narrative on the growth and development of policies on the African continent.
The symposium will feature several panels focused on the following topics: sustainable development; rule of law and democracy; international co-operation and frameworks; and strong institutions. The symposium will also feature keynote addresses by Yamina Karitanyi, the Rwanda High Commissioner to the UK and Ireland, and Ernest Uwazie, the Director of the Center for Africa Peace and Conflict Resolution at California State University.
