Human Rights in the Age of AI. Impacts and Safeguards [1]

Date:
Tuesday, July 14, 2020 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm
Description:

The continued development of AI promises numerous economic, social, medical, and security solutions. The use of AI technology in business, government, and civil society contexts and the possible replacement of human decision-makers raise important questions about whether current policies, practices, and methods to protect human rights are fit for the purpose. While the potential of AI is uncontested, accountability and compliance questions have been widely debated, including the human rights issues it may raise. After analyzing the jurisdictional questions of AI in the cross-border context, our panel of distinguished experts will discuss the needed safeguards to protect human rights in public and private sector uses of big data and AI.

This session is co-sponsored by ASIL’s International Law and Technology Interest Group.
