In this webinar, Prof. Desiree LeClercq, assistant professor at Cornell University School of Industrial Labor Relations and affiliate faculty at the Cornell University Law School, will discuss the need to teach international economic tools intended to regulate sustainable development by drawing from behavioral and cognitive sciences. In her work, which focuses on fundamental labor standards and trade instruments, Desiree highlights the role of compliance and deterrence and assesses the tradeoffs of various tools to influence state and non-state actor behavior. By adopting a behavioral and cognitive lens, students may better understand the implications of international economic law and trade policy for vulnerable populations and the environment. They may also better understand the consequences of power asymmetries between comparatively rich countries and trade vulnerable countries. Md.
