U.S. Courts International Law Year in Review [1]

Date:
Thursday, October 17, 2024 - 6:00pm to 8:00pm
Description:

The Dispute Resolution Interest Group cordially invites you to a panel discussion on recent key decisions in U.S. courts and legally driven developments in executive branch practice that have significant implications for U.S. foreign relations and engagement with international organizations. Our panelists will explore critical legal developments affecting U.S. international relations across various domains, including: sovereign immunity cases in the context of bilateral investment treaty and human rights claims; jurisdictional conflicts between courts in commercial dispute resolution; recent cases demonstrating a shift away from deference to the executive branch in treaty interpretation, and the recent jurisprudence on U.S. extraterritoriality law. This timely discussion will provide valuable insights into the complex interplay between domestic legal decisions and U.S. foreign policy objectives. Following the panel discussion, please join us for a reception featuring light refreshments and drinks.

Panelists:

  • Alexandra Chopin, Winston & Strawn LLP
  • Addar Levi, Acting General Counsel, US Department of the Treasury
  • Juan Perla, Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP
