MONDIACULT and the Future of Cultural Policy: Cultural Rights in Global and Comparative Perspective [1]

Description:

The Cultural Heritage and the Arts Interest Group (CHAIG) and the Interest Group on International Law of Culture (IG ILC) of the European Society of International Law invite members and interested individuals to a webinar examining the significance of the World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development – MONDIACULT for contemporary debates on cultural rights and cultural policy. Building on the outcomes of the MONDIACULT process (Mexico City 2022 and Barcelona 2025), the webinar will explore how culture is increasingly framed as a public good and as an essential component of sustainable development, social inclusion, and human rights protection. The discussion will address the role of cultural rights in shaping cultural policy at international, regional, and national levels, with particular attention to comparative perspectives and current global challenges. The webinar will bring together scholars and practitioners from diverse backgrounds to foster dialogue between international legal frameworks and cultural policy practice. Speakers will reflect on the implications of the MONDIACULT agenda for cultural governance, policy design, and implementation, including questions of participation, diversity, and access to culture. A Q&A session will follow.
