ICJ 2019-20 Annual Report Published [1]
The International Court of Justice published its report [3] for the period August 1, 2019 to July 31, 2020. At fifty pages, the bulk of the report is focused on the Court's judicial activities during this period. The report indicates that the Court issued three judgments; indicated provisional measures in one case; and handed down seven procedural orders. As indicated in the summary of the report:
The pending contentious cases concern eight States from the Group of Asian and Pacific States, eight from the Group of Latin American and Caribbean States, six from the Group of African States, four from the Group of Eastern European States, and two from the Group of Western European and other States. The diverse geographical spread of cases is illustrative of the universal character of the jurisdiction of the United Nations’ principal judicial organ.
The report also highlights the Court's continuing public outreach efforts so that states can become more familiar with the Court and its work and outlines efforts in that regard, such as an interview given by the Registrar of the Court to UN News in October 2019.
