The International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the world’s leading institution for resolving international investment disputes, released its 2025 Annual Report [3]. The report highlighted significant progress in efficiency, transparency, and global collaboration. Over the years, ICSID restructured its administrative processes to improve case management, enhance tribunal timeliness, and reduce costs.

The annual report emphasized ICSID’s commitment to procedural fairness and transparency, including detailed statistics on third-party funding disclosures, security for costs, damages awarded, and the geographic origin of investors. During the fiscal year from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025 (FY2025), ICSID registered 109 new cases, administered 347 cases, and concluded 81 proceedings, including 53 arbitrations. Of the arbitration cases, 42 were decided by tribunals and 11 were settled or discontinued.

Diversity within ICSID’s appointments continued to grow, with 48 nationalities represented and 30% of all appointments held by women. The extractive and energy sectors remained the largest sources of disputes, accounting for 43% of new cases.

ICSID strengthened its international partnerships through 35 cooperation agreements with dispute resolution centers worldwide and hosted 150 capacity building and knowledge-sharing activities. Membership also continued to grow, reaching 165 signatory states and 158 contracting states.

The 2025 Annual Report highlighted ICSID’s continued leadership in delivering efficient and transparent investment dispute resolution worldwide.
