UN General Assembly Elects International Law Commission Members [1]
On November 12, 2021, the UN General Assembly elected thirty-four members of the International Law Commission (ILC) to serve between 2023 – 2027. According to an ILC press release [3], 9 nationals from African states, 8 nationals from Asia-Pacific states, 3 nationals from Eastern European states, 6 nationals from Latin American and Caribbean states, and 8 nationals from Western European and other states were elected. The ILC is responsible for developing and codifying international law, and members of the ILC are “persons of recognized competence in international law.”
