Inter-American Juridical Committee Publishes 2013 Annual Report (January 24, 2014) [1]
On January 24, 2014, the Inter-American Juridical Committee to the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (the Committee) published its 2013 Annual Report [3]. The report details that the Committee held two sessions in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and adopted three reports, including: Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression; [4] Model Legislation on Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict [5]; and Inter-American Judicial Cooperation. Further, four rapporteurships were established to keep track of new mandates, which include: “drafting of a Model Law regarding access to public information and protection of personal data . . .; corporate social responsibility in the field of human rights and the environment in the Americas; alternatives for regulating the use substances and preventing drug addiction of narcotic psychotropic substances and preventing drug addiction; and, guidelines for migration management in bilateral relations.” The Committee plenary also continued its work on matters such as: “sexual orientation, gender identity and expression; general guidelines for border integration; immunity of States and international organizations; electronic warehouse receipts for agricultural products; and inter-American judicial cooperation.”
