U.S. Releases Intelligence Report on Russian Hacking (January 6, 2017) [1]
On January 6, 2017, the U.S. Office of the Director of National Intelligence released a report [3] detailing a Russian campaign to influence the recent U.S. presidential elections. The report is a truncated version of a highly classified report assembled by various U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies. The report states that the alleged election tampering “represent[s] the most recent expression of Moscow's longstanding desire to undermine the US-led liberal democratic order" and that "these activities demonstrated a significant escalation in directness, level of activity, and scope of effort compared to previous operations." The report adds that in its assessment, the influence campaigned was ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
