Climate change and displacement: A challenge for international law

Description:

Please join the American Red Cross? International Humanitarian Law and Restoring Family Links teams for a discussion with Professor Jane McAdam of the Faculty of Law of the University of New South Wales and Director of the Andrew & Renata Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law and Professor Walter Kalin, a professor emeritus for international and (Swiss) constitutional law at the University of Bern/Switzerland and the present Envoy of the Chair of the Platform on Disaster Displacement. This discussion will cover the current state of international law and whether it is equipped to respond to growing displacement as a result of climate change. We will explore the relevance of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change processes for the development of international law on displacement in the context of climate change. We will also discuss how climate change has affected the development of refugee law, migration law, and human rights law.
