The American Society of International Law (ASIL) is pleased to welcome Niklas Hedman, chief of the Committee, Policy, and Legal Affairs Section of the U.N. Office for Outer Space Affairs, for a wide-ranging discussion on a variety of issues of current interest in international space law and policy. Among the topics to be discussed are:
- UNISPACE+50 and global space governance: the role of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space;
- Trends and challenges to the progressive development of international space law; and
- Challenges to safety, security and sustainability of outer space activities.
Steve Mirmina, adjunct professor of Space Law at the Georgetown University Law Center, will interview Mr. Hedman in the first half of the program, and then audience members will have a chance to pose questions.
Doors open at 8:30am and a light breakfast will be provided. This event is organized by ASIL’s Space Law Interest Group.
