Global Engagement Series - Gender and climate change: framing a field: A Discussion of Feminist Frontiers in Climate Justice
Does ecological depredation and climate change affect women differently? Feminists and policymakers have asked this question for at least half a century, although the query has become increasingly more and more pressing. As part of the ASIL/LASIL Global Engagement Series, this session will discuss some answers that academics and policymakers have proposed in the book Feminist Frontiers in Climate Justice (Elgar 2023). The volume, edited by Cathi Albertyn, Meghan Campbell, Helena Alviar, Sandy Fredman, and Marta Rodriguez Machado Assis, explores the deeply gendered and unequal effects of climate change and the feminist tools set forth to analyze these issues and propose solutions. Alejandro Chehtman will discuss some of the topics included in the edited volume in a conversation with Helena Alviar and María Carolina Olarte.
