The 12th session of the WTO Ministerial Conference (MC12) took place on 12-17 June 2022 at WTO headquarters in Geneva, after being postponed twice, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As the highest decision-making body of the WTO, attended by trade ministers and other senior officials from the 164 WTO members, the Ministerial Conference was surrounded by high expectations
At the conclusion of the Conference, trade ministers from around the world adopted a historic package - including the reduction of fishery subsidies, a loosening of vaccine-production limits, and the mitigation of the impact of a global food crisis. The agreements break the WTO's seven-year negotiations downturn, after four years of attacks under former President Trump administration, the COVID-19 pandemic, drained supply chains, and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
This BIICL webinar will bring together experts at the WTO and in academia to discuss the results of the Conference and this historical alignment of the 164 WTO members (including Russia and Ukraine).
