2020 has been a year of disaster. In addition to natural disasters ranging from seemingly unstoppable wildfires in the American West to catastrophic flooding in Vietnam, more global citizens have become better acquainted with the concept of disaster through their lived experiences with the COVID-19 pandemic. The American Society of International Law is co-sponsoring with the Universidad San Francisco de Quito a webinar featuring UNDRR Director Ricardo Mena as a keynote speaker. With three decades of experience in disaster management, Mr. Mena has been actively involved in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. In this webinar, he will share his experience at UNDRR, discuss whether the field of disaster law needs a new global instrument, and answer questions about UN disaster law and policy.
