The Schrems II Decision: Mission Impossible? Implications of the Schrems II Decision for International Trade, National Security, and Privacy Rights

The American Society of International Law’s Government Attorneys Interest Group (ASIL/GAIG) and the Society of International Legal Attachés of Washington (INT-LAW) invite all ASIL and INT-LAW members and the general public to join us for a live, online conversation with government and public interest attorneys from the United States and European Union regarding the recent judgment by the Court of Justice for the European Union (CJEU) in the matter of Data Protection Commissioner v Facebook Ireland Limited and Maximillian Schrems, Case C0311-18 also referred to as Schrems II, a decision that invalidated the US-EU Privacy Shield framework and imposed additional requirements on companies to evaluate government access to data in transferring data to the United States.  The panel will discuss the implications of this landmark data privacy decision on US/EU data transfers, how the decision fits in with other recent CJEU decisions on data privacy, and the legal and policy options moving forward.
