Workshop on Peaceful Uses of Outer Space

Description:

Though historically the space activities started for military advantage, the commercial benefits of the outer space have helped in shifting the focus of space activities from militarization to commercialization. However, the twenty first century is once again transforming the nature of space activities with several States unveiling their military ambitions in outer space. The bipolar race between the United States and the Soviet Union during the cold war has become multi-polar with the entry of other players to the race. In the wake of current efforts to militarize the outer space, a discourse on the legal regime governing the demilitarization of the outer space is found absolutely essential. Hence, Centre for Aviation and Space Laws of the National University of Juridical Sciences is organizing a workshop to deliberate on the legal position of military activities in outer space.
