The Disaster Law and Law of the Sea Interest Groups of the American Society of International Law (ASIL) and the Arctic Centre (AC) of the University of Lapland and hosting a Joint Interdisciplinary Maritime Safety Workshop.
The workshop will feature approximately presentations on different aspects of maritime safety of about 35 to 30 minutes each, followed by a few minutes for questions.
Topics can include for example
Maritime Safety in the Arctic
Preventing large scale Disasters at Sea
Risk Awareness, Preparation and Seafarer Training
Technical Solutions and International Law
Using International Law to enhance Maritime Safety
Environmental aspects of Maritime Safety
Learning from past incidents.
Other presentations are welcome as well. The idea is to provide a broad look at different aspects of maritime safety and to give participants food for thought beyond their respective fields of work.
Potential speakers are asked to submit an abstract of no more than 300 words no later than 12 February 2018 by email to stefan.kirchner@ulapland.fi. The event will be live on www.asil.org/live. It is planned to enable presentations from abroad, e.g. by Skype. In case you want to give your presentation without being present in Rovaniemi, please inform the organizers when submitting your abstract.
