The George Washington University International Law Review's annual Symposium draws nearly 200 students, faculty, practitioners, and alumni to hear distinguished speakers from government, academia, business, and civil society address novel issues in international law. The Symposium is also an opportunity for scholars to publish cutting-edge work related to the Symposium theme, which is published in a special Symposium edition of the International Law Review.
The title of the 2022 Symposium is "The State of the Nation-State," and it will explore the tension between rapidly evolving globalization and increasing assertions of state sovereignty across four areas: (1) data regulation and cybersecurity; (2) international criminal law; (3) climate change; and (4) why the goal of a state persists for stateless populations despite globalization.
The Symposium also includes diverse voices and the majority of our panel is composed of women and 40% of the panelists represent underrepresented communities.
