The 14th Annual “Live from L”: The Role of the Advisory Opinions of the International Court of Justice

Description:

"Live from L" is an annual event in which attorneys from the U.S. Department of State Office of the Legal Adviser present about their work. This year's event will focus on the advisory jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice, which allows the UN General Assembly, UN Security Council, and other UN organs and specialized agencies to refer legal questions to the ICJ. The panelists will discuss the history of the ICJ's advisory jurisdiction, considerations the United States and other UN member states take into account when deciding whether to provide views in advisory proceedings, and recent proceedings of note.
