Human Rights and Environmental Risk, Responsibilities and Opportunities of Financial Institutions

Description:

Join us for a discussion about the United Nations Working Group on Business and Human Rights recent report on "Investors, ESG Approaches, and Human Rights."The report is addressed to institutional asset owners and asset managers of all classes, including commercial and investment banks in relation to their asset management functions and their corporate lending activities when part of an investment in businesses. The lead author Robert McCorquodale, former Director of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law, will present the report's principal conclusions and recommendations. Robert will then join in a dialogue with Michael Littenberg, a partner at Ropes & Gray who is the Global Head of the firm's ESG, CSR and Business and Human Rights practice and advises a large number of asset managers and asset owners on ESG matters. The dialogue will aim to probe the implications and potential of the UN report's recommendations, and the limits thereon, from the point of view of investors and their counsel. The program is co-sponsored by the American Society of International Law's New York Chapter, Business and Human Rights Committee of the NYC Bar, Business and Human Rights Lawyers Association, Business for Social Responsibility, KPMG LLP, and the Vance Center for International Justice of the NYC Bar. Coffee and pastries served beginning at 8.15 AM. RSVP to Jpedroza@kslaw.com indicating whether you will join in person or remotely.
