Inaugural DRIG Oral Argument Workshop

Description:

As part of its commitment to supporting the next generation of international lawyers, ASIL’s Dispute Resolution Interest Group invites you to its Oral Argument Workshop at ASIL’s Tillar House. Four young professionals practicing cross-border dispute resolution will argue a key issue decided in a landmark case before a three-member mock tribunal, followed by a discussion on the legacy of the case. The Parties will argue Spain’s Preliminary Objection in Barcelona Traction that Belgium’s claim is inadmissible because the Belgian Government lacks any jus standi to intervene or make a judicial claim on behalf of Belgian interests in a Canadian company. The arguments will last twenty minutes each, after which the audience will be invited to vote for the winning team. The panel of arbitrators will discuss the legacy of Barcelona Traction for cross-border dispute resolution.
