Teaching Transitional Justice

The American Society of International Law’s Transitional Justice and Rule of Law Interest Group is pleased to invite you to attend a roundtable discussion on Teaching Transitional Justice. This panel will include scholars who teach transitional justice at universities and in varied classroom settings, and who will engage in a discussion on how diverse student bodies and instructors impact transitional justice pedagogy.

Participants will discuss how the specific classroom context within which they teach transitional justice shapes the ways in which they teach it as well as the content of the course(s), challenges and/or unexpected opportunities they have faced while teaching transitional justice, and best practices for teaching transitional justice in varied contexts.

The discussion will also consider how the personal and professional backgrounds of teachers of transitional justice shapes the ways in which they teach it. Finally, the discussion will offer an opportunity for current and recent students of transitional justice to share their experiences on how they were taught transitional justice. This roundtable will be of interest to transitional justice scholars, educators, and students.
