Leading scholars and practitioners from around the world will survey the principal points of intersection between public international law and cultural heritage law at this 1.5 day conference. The event takes place immediately prior to the opening of the ASIL Annual Meeting, just two blocks away at ASIL Academic Partner Georgetown University Law Center.
Panel topics will include international human rights and cultural heritage, the law of armed conflict and cultural heritage, World Heritage and the World Court, the international movement and restitution of cultural artifacts, and international criminal law and cultural heritage. Patty Gerstenblith (Depaul University College of Law) will deliver a lunch keynote address assessing cultural heritage destruction in Syria and Iraq. Sir Frank Berman (former legal adviser to the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office), with Roger O'Keefe (University College London) as discussant, will provide the concluding keynote discussing the Case Concerning the Temple of Preah Vihear (Interpretation) (Cambodia v.
